The Kingdom has intensified its security operations after receiving information that drug smugglers are trying new ways to infiltrate the country. An informed source told Al-Hayat Arabic daily that the Anti-Drug General Directorate (ADGD) has asked all control and customs authorities at land, air and sea ports of entry to remain vigilant for drug traffickers from Syria and Turkey. These smugglers conceal drugs inside heavy machinery, bulldozers and tractors, send them to a European or Mideastern country and then try to get them through Saudi ports of entry. The source said the ADGD received information about these trafficking methods from the Regional Intelligence Liaison Office (RILO) for the Mideast in Riyadh. Recently the Jordanian customs authorities succeeded in busting a big trafficking operation of 15.7 million Captagon pills concealed inside a caterpillar excavator loaded on a Lebanese truck. “The traffickers wanted to smuggle this enormous amount of pills to the free market in Al-Zarqa District in Jordan and then sneak it over the Kingdom's borders,” said the source. The exchange of information between RILO and local offices helped the Jordanian customs authorities foil the operation. The source stressed that the Kingdom should be aware of these new trafficking methods and should remain vigilant.
