Orioles 8, Tigers 5: Nick Markakis homered and drove in four runs, Jo-Jo Reyes allowed four hits over six innings to earn his first win with Baltimore, and the Orioles beat the Detroit Tigers to avoid a three-game sweep. Nolan Reimold and Adam Jones had three hits apiece for the Orioles, who got off to a quick start in their second win in eight games. Baltimore led 3-0 after two innings and pulled away with a three-run fifth. Markakis also had three hits — a homer with a man on in the first inning and RBI singles in the fifth and sixth. After going hitless in his previous two games, Markakis now has hit in 178 consecutive series, the longest active streak in the majors. White Sox 6, Royals 2: Brent Lillibridge hit a three-run homer, John Danks pitched six strong innings and the Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals. Paul Konerko added three hits for the White Sox (60-60), who have won eight of 10 to reach .500. Alexei Ramirez had two hits and scored twice. Chicago improved its abysmal home record to 26-33 and moved within four games of AL Central-leading Detroit, which lost 8-5 at Baltimore. The White Sox won consecutive games in a single series at US Cellular Field for the first time since June 21 and 22 against the Cubs. Danks (5-9) is 5-1 in his last nine starts after starting the season with an 0-8 record. Mariners 5, Red Sox 3: Charlie Furbush allowed just one run in a career-best seven innings, Casper Wells homered and scored two runs and the Seattle Mariners beat Boston, taking two of three from the AL East-leading Red Sox. Indians, Twins ppd: The Cleveland Indians' 1-0 lead was washed away after two innings by rain Sunday and the game against the Minnesota Twins postponed. No makeup date was announced after the teams waited 2 hours, 55 minutes to call it. Rays, Yankees ppd: The game between the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees was also postponed because of rain.
