The Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has called on certain companies to abide by Shariah rules, traditions, public morals, security and regulations when sending SMSs. Abdullah Al-Dharrab, the CITC Governor, said in a circular that the CITC learned that there were some text messages that ridiculed regional events and their impact on the region. The CITC said it held the companies accountable for delivering these messages to subscribers. It said it would pursue the companies and ban the messages. The CITC governor sent the circular to the companies after he received a letter from Muhammad Jameel Mulla, Minister of Communication and Information Technology, calling for companies to abide by the regulations. There are dozens of companies sending SMS messages to subscribers in the Kingdom. Some of them belong to news sites on the Internet. __
