England's Tim Bresnan (C) is congratulated by teammates after dismissing India's Mahendra Singh Dhoni in Nottingham Monday. — Reuters NOTTINGHAM — England beat India by a crushing margin of 319 runs to win the second Test at Trent Bridge with more than a day to spare here Monday and go 2-0 up in the four-match series. India, set what would have been a record total of 478 to win, collapsed to 158 all out with seamer Tim Bresnan taking a Test-best five for 48. Sachin Tendulkar top-scored for India in its second innings with 56 but that meant he was still stuck on 99 international hundreds. India lost the key wicket of Rahul Dravid (6) before lunch and another experienced batsman in VVS Laxman (4) followed him 12 balls after the interval. Rookie opener Abhinav Mukund (3), Suresh Raina (1), Yuvraj Singh (8) and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (0) were the other key victims. No team has scored more runs to win in the fourth innings of a Test than the 418 for seven made by the West Indies against Australia at St John's, Antigua, in 2002-03. Bresnan, recalled in place of injured fast bowler Chris Tremlett, had made 90 batting at number eight earlier Monday as England was dismissed for 544 in its second innings. Ian Bell, dramatically reprieved by India on 137 when the visitors withdrew a run out appeal after the batsman mistakenly thought the ball was dead, batted superbly for 159 before he was dismissed on Sunday's third day. Medium-pacer Praveen Kumar led India's attack with four for 124 in 36 overs. England, which won the first Test at Lord's by 196 runs, will replace India at the top of the ICC's Test Championship table if it take this four-match series by a margin of 2-0 or better. The third Test at Edgbaston starts Aug. 10.
