King Saud University (KSU) is to host the inaugural ‘Solar Arabia' summit from Oct. 23 to 24. The summit will bring influential bodies responsible for shaping the legal framework of the Kingdom's renewable energy sector. These include the Ministry of Water and Electricity and the Saudi Electricity Company and other government officials, key policy makers, business conglomerates and potential investors. Leading international manufacturers of solar products will also actively take part. They have the opportunity to showcase their solutions and educate attendees about the latest innovations in the sector. The KSU support comes in the light of recent research programs exploring the potential of clean and renewable energy in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, with an 186th place, KSU has maintained its position among the top 200 universities in the world, according to the Webometrics Rankings of World Universities. It also ranked KSU as the top university in the Arab World and 19th in Asia. The ranking placed King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) at 302nd position. KSU which had a 164th spot in 2010, has been pushed back 22 positions this year. The ranking is published by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) located in Madrid. The ranking started in 2004 and is updated every January and July. The Institute of Higher Education of Shanghai Jiao Tong University placed KSU among the top 400 universities in the world in 2010.
