Top seed Robin Soderling swept aside the challenge of Spain's David Ferrer to win the Swedish Open final 6-2, 6-2 in Bastad Sunday. The Swede, ranked fifth in the world, broke Ferrer's serve in the first game of the rain-delayed final and never looked back, taking the next game without conceding a point and romping through the first set. Soderling started the second set in a similar manner, breaking a frustrated Ferrer in the opening game and racing out to a 4-0 lead. The second-seeded Spaniard fought back strongly, saving a flurry of break points before breaking Soderling in the sixth game to stay in the match. But Soderling struck back immediately, breaking back in the seventh game before serving out for the match as the sunshine finally broke through. Ferrer had no answers to the Swede's punishing ground strokes. It was Soderling's fourth ATP victory of the season and his second Swedish Open title. Ferrero wins in Stuttgart Former No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero overcame a long rain delay Sunday to beat Pablo Andujar 6-4, 6-0 in an all-Spanish final of the Mercedes Cup. The 31-year-old veteran fired his first ace of the match to clinch the first set. He then rolled through the next six games to secure his 16th career title and first since winning last August in Umag, Croatia. Ferrero was playing only his third tournament of the year after being out for two months with injuries. Medina Garrigues wins cup In Sicily, Anabel Medina Garrigues defeated Polona Hercog of Slovenia 6-3, 6-2 Sunday to win the Palermo Open for the fifth time. It was the 28-year-old Spaniard's 11th career title and 10th on clay. Medina Garrigues now holds the record for most clay-court titles among active players, overtaking Venus Williams, who has nine. The fifth-seeded Medina Garrigues also won the tournament in 2001 and from 2004-06. The loss ended a nine-match winning streak for the seventh-seeded Hercog, who won her maiden title last week. Martinez wins title In Austria, Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez defeated Austrian wild card Patricia Mayr-Archleitner 6-0, 7-5 in the final of the Gastein Ladies Sunday to win her fourth career title.
