Local favorite Robin Soderling will play David Ferrer of Spain Sunday in a Swedish Open final between former champions. The fifth-ranked Swede routed Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-0, dominating from the back of the clay court and sealing the match with an ace. The second-seeded Ferrer beat defending champion Nicolas Almagro 6-1, 6-3 in an all-Spanish semifinal. Soderling won the tournament in 2009, Ferrer in 2007. Ferrero vs. Andujar final In Stuttgart, Juan Carlos Ferrero rallied to beat Federico del Bonis of Argentina 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 Saturday and will play fellow Spaniard Pablo Andujar in the final of the Mercedes Cup. Ferrero was a set and a break down to del Bonis, in his first tournament in two months after wrist and knee injuries. A former No. 1, Ferrero is ranked 85th in the world. Del Bonis, 11 years younger, is at No. 240. Andujar outlasted Lukasz Kubot of Poland 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to stay in the hunt for his second title of the year after Casablanca. None of the four semifinalists were seeded. Ferrero will be playing for his 16th career title in his 34th final. Medina Garrigues in final In Italy, Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain defeated Petra Cetkovska of the Czech Republic 7-5, 6-3 Saturday to reach the Palermo Open final, 10 years after she won her first career title at the tournament. The 28-year-old Medina Garrigues, who also won from 2004-06, will play Slovenia's Polona Hercog in Sunday's final after she beat Italian Flavia Pennetta 6-2, 6-2. Mayr-Archleitner in final In Bad Gastein, Austria, Austrian wild card Patricia Mayr-Archleitner thrashed eighth-seeded Ksenia Pervak 6-0, 6-0 in less than 48 minutes at the Gastein Ladies Saturday to reach her first WTA Tour final. It was only the 109th-ranked Mayr-Archleitner's second semifinal after reaching the last four at a 2009 tournament in Bogota, Colombia. She will play either Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain or Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine Sunday. Earlier Saturday, Pervak and Bondarenko won their quarterfinal matches, which had been postponed by a day due to rain. Pervak defeated Spain's Laura Pous-Tio 6-2, 7-6 (5), while Bondarenko routed Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro 6-2, 6-1. Japan leads 2-0 Up-and-coming Misaki Doi gave Japan a perfect start as they led 2-0 against Argentina on the first day of the Fed Cup World Group II play-off in Kobe, Japan Saturday. The 20-year-old whitewashed Maria Irigoyen 6-0, 6-0 in the opener of the best-of-five contest in the Japanese city of Kobe.
