The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) has advised motorists to pay close attention to the production and expiry dates on their car tires. In a statement Monday, SASO said the expiry date for new tires is no more than 24 months for small cars, buses and light-duty trucks, and 30 months for heavy-duty trucks. It stressed that a seller must provide a consumer with at least a one-year warranty from the purchase date. This applies to tires on new cars. “Tires are categorized by the maximum speed at which they can be used. For 180 kilometers per hour the symbol S is used; for 190 kilometers per hour the symbol T is used; for 200 kilometers the symbol U,” he said. “For 210, 240, and 270 kilometers per hour the symbols H, V and W are used respectively,” he added. In terms of resisting heat, he said tires are divided into three classes. Class A is the best for the Kingdom's weather conditions while the other two classes are for regions with lower temperatures. SASO advised drivers to make sure the air pressure in their car tires is based on the instructions of the car manufacturer. __
