WASHINGTON: More special operations raids, targeted drone strikes and fewer land wars can be expected in the US fight against Al-Qaeda, with surgical action replacing the Bush administration's all-out efforts to combat terrorism. That is according to White House counterterrorism chief John Brennan, who unveiled a new Obama administration counterterror strategy Wednesday. Two years in the making, the written policy outlines what Brennan calls laser-focused action against specific terror groups, especially against Al-Qaeda's leadership in Pakistan and Yemen. He said the White House will resist Al-Qaeda attempts to draw it into more costly wars such as in Iraq and Afghanistan. Brennan says the strategy is also the first to focus primarily on Al-Qaeda attempts to recruit and attack inside the United States. Brennan was speaking at a Washington think tank.
