JEDDAH: Seasoned bowler Paolo Allego and the Carmen Lim entertained the crowd with their spectacular matches that earned them a title when the former escaped Jett Santos by three pins and the latter won via rule of consistency over Evelyn Santoc during the Filipino Expatriate Damayan Bowling Group Kalayaan Cup 2011 at the Bowling City here. With the competition patterned to monthly tournament, Allego reached the final when he beat Class C top-qualifier Rolly Vistal (435-389) after clearing off Ronnie de Castro (205) Joey Calapatia (200), Edward Botardo, Carlos Bustinera and Sol Cuenca with his 255. Santos shone in Class B, defeating Ernie Geslani (411-377) who went away from Al-Mogawan, Rene Rom, Toto Lim and Ferdie Coloma. Ed Sardi?a, who outlasted Zaldy Bacero, Oca Bernabe and Marcelo Manalo, enabled the race via repeating last-frame defeat of Johnny Macalintal (416-404) in Group OA. Fred Cuenca, who topped Class D, went into the finals beating Nards Hassan (406-357). Hassan bested Serge Rivera, Med Ramos, Oliver Malicsi, Ross Sabiniano and Ver Jasa. On the final two games it was Sardi?a, who claimed Game 1 at 219, warily looking down on Allego (198), Santos (175) and Cuenca (164). Heightened excitement was seen on the ultimate game when Allego and Santos offensively accelerated to slowly bulldoze Sardi?a's lead which is eroding due to splits. Allego finished ahead to be sure of the second place with 405 total as Santos needed only to mark his last frame for the title. The shot was a solid pocket but left No. 10 which Santos horribly missed to submit 402 and make Allego FEDBG Kalayaan Cup 2011 champion. Sardi?a and Cuenca settled third and fourth respectively. In the ladies division, Sally Sa?osa and Carmen Lim clinched finals' spots with respective 4-game series of 769 and 801 while Nurissa Ramos and Evelyn Santoc joined them by separately beating Puri Parena (180-152) and Eva Garcia (183-175) on the playoff. Lim beat Santoc in Game 1 by 32 pins (220-188), while Sa?osa and Ramos kept striking distance with scores of 182 and 169, respectively. Finalists seemed focused early on, but Ramos could embrace only fourth spot with 330 as Sa?osa finished third with 368. Lim and Santoc then entertained the audience when the former completed her trek at 420 on 200 endgame. Santoc rolled firmly to wipe all the pins off the deck for a 232 endgame and tied Lim at 420. But Lim won the title when high-and-low computed 20-44 on scratch games of 180 and 160. Santoc's games were 152 and 202 settled her at first runner-up.
