(Okaz photo)TAIF: A total of 257 prisoners, including 19 sentenced death, have completed their year-end examinations Saturday as part-time and distance learning students at 10 Saudi universities. Brig. Gen. Dr. Haid Al-Haidar, Assistant Director General of Prisons for Reform and Rehabilitation, said pursuing studies has given the prisoners the opportunity to continue their university education. He pointed out that 257 male prisoners and one female, who are university students in the Kingdom, have completed their year-end exams. He said they were provided with the necessary facilities to concentrate on their question papers and complete their education, in close coordination with the universities. Al-Haidar called on the directors of reformatories, officers in charge of reform programs, social workers and teachers supervising the education process, to encourage prisoners to join these programs. He said the education program in prisons is being carried in a safe and secure environment.
