JEDDAH: The Saudi Cricket Center has selected 18 probable players for the upcoming ACC U-19 Challenge Cup to be played in Malaysia. The tournament, a regular feature of the Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) development program, will start from July 1, 2011 in Kuala Lumpur and Penang. Saudi Arabia is in Group A along with Kuwait, the Maldives and Brunei, while Group B comprises Bhutan, China, Iran and Myanmar. The ACC Development Officer, Iqbal Sikandar, and the SCC National Selection Committee (NSC) conducted the trials at Hala Cricket Academy, Jeddah. Sikndar acknowledged the notable talent here, but emphasized the need of imparting training and grooming. The probables, who have been picked from the affiliate regional cricket associations, have been attending a 15-day training camp in Jeddah since last Saturday. The SCC plans to make the probables play at least three 40-over matches against selected teams. The final 14 will be picked on the basis of fitness and performance. Talking about the selection procedure, Nadeem Nadwi, CEO of SCC, said the NSC is responsible to select first the probables and then a final squad based on team formation and other technicalities. __
