Harra Al-Sharqiah, the woman who committed suicide Friday evening by jumping from a window in her apartment here, have accused her ex-husband of beating her and causing her psychological problems. Al-Harr's brothers said the circumstances led them to take her from her husband's house in Al-Qassim to her family's residence in Madina. A brother of the victim told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that his sister got married to the man seven years ago when she was 17. They were blessed with two daughters. Her husband used to accuse her of being mentally ill, which deeply hurt her, the brother said. The man's recent marriage to another woman caused his sister's condition to deteriorate further, he added. The woman's brother said that moments before jumping from the fourth floor window, his sister, who had memorized the Qur'an, was murmuring her former husband's name, asking to see him and repeating expressions indicating that she was still attached to him. The woman had been greatly distressed then. After that she calmed down a little, asked to see her two girls, kissed them and jumped out of the window, her brother said. Preliminary investigations showed that the woman was suffering from psychiatric and neurological disorders, officials have said. Okaz/Saudi Gazette has obtained a copy of a letter the woman's mother sent to the Emir's Office in Madina Region in which she said her daughter and her children were suffering from difficult living conditions because her son-in-law, a former businessman, lost all his money in business deals and in the stock market. The woman's mother lived in the US for 24 years. She said they returned to the Kingdom 28 years ago and were blessed with nine children. According to the victim's brother, a team has been formed to study the family's condition.
