Waha is one of over 10 Jeddah districts where groundwater is seeping into houses causing considerable damage and health problems, according to residents. Many people believe this is sewage water. Several residents said they cannot use ground floors of their houses anymore because the stagnant water is attracting insects carrying diseases. Al-Waha residents have demanded that the authorities take action and find out what is causing the problem. The residents of Attawfiq, Al-Musaed, Quwaizah and Al-Ajwad districts have also joined this call. They said this problem has been going on for years and want a permanent solution found. There are more than 10 districts suffering from this problem, according to statistics released by the Jeddah Mayoralty. All these districts have dense populations. Sources said that all water projects in Jeddah are now under the management and supervision of the Makkah Emir's Office – after previously falling under the city Mayor's Office. This includes groundwater and rainwater drainage projects. The authorities are currently carrying out a number of projects in east Jeddah districts to tackle the problem of groundwater. These projects are being run by specialist companies with advanced technologies.
