JEDDAH: The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) in the Makkah region has assigned a representative to help the young girls who fell victim to a serial rapist in Jeddah. Saudi Gazette reported Friday that police had arrested a man on suspicion of raping 13 girls after his most recent victim gave a positive recognition of the house where she was held by her abductor. NSHR regional supervisor Hussein Al-Shareef said that the organization is in contact with the families of victims to ensure they have access to all the services available from the relevant authorities such as Social Affairs, Health Affairs and education administrations to help victims overcome the physical and psychological consequences of their experiences. “The NSHR is ready to offer all the help it can to secure the rights of these young girls who have fallen victim to such heinous inhumane acts,” Al-Shareef said. “We will be following the case closely until the criminal is brought to justice, and we are offering all the support we can to victims and their families and will do so for as long as necessary.” According to testimonies, the rapist lured young girls into his car by offering them sweets and took them to different locations around the city of Jeddah. He acted at different times of day and used two vehicles to cover his tracks. The suspect targeted unaccompanied girls at market areas and wedding halls and police received reports of abductions with similar characteristics from parents of female minors in the districts of Al-Kandara, Al-Balad, Al-Jami'a and Al-Sharfiya. The man was also reported as having caused serious facial injuries to his victims.
