RIYADH: The terrorist who killed two border guards and injured another while trying to cross over into Yemen recently, has been identified as Abdullah Bin Abdul Rahman Bin Saleh Al-Sayil, a Saudi national, according to Ministry of Interior spokesman. Al-Sayil was killed in the border shootout with Saudi guards. Laboratory tests on the firearm found in his possession showed it was the same weapon used in an attack on two security patrols in Buraidah in Al-Qassim region on May 27, 2011 resulting in the death of a security officer and injury of another. When the authorities checked the criminal record of the terrorist, it turned out that he had been detained by the security authorities on Feb. 17, 2004 and was convicted by a court, approved by the Court of Cassation, for being involved in the activities of the deviant group. Al-Sayil was trying to set up a training camp to teach warfare, provide arms and facilitate travel to regions embroiled in turmoil, said the spokesman Al-Sayil also participated in various violent acts. This despite a written undertaking to the Saudi authorities that he would not get involved in such activities. When he was jailed by the authorities, he had been enrolled in an awareness program to teach him the proper Islamic behavior based on the Holy Qur'an and the Prophet's Traditions (Sunnah). His family had also pledged to the authorities that they would watch and follow him after his release. The Ministry of Interior said that while the Shariah courts will act against those deviating from the correct path, and even enter them into awareness programs, it was also the responsibility of those around them to ensure they behave correctly and do not threaten the security and safety of the country. The ministry urged citizens to inform the government if anyone behaves suspiciously in the country.
