day road safety symposium that concluded here Sunday have recommended a 10-point strategy to curb road accidents and to tackle other challenges facing traffic safety initiatives around the world, especially in developing countries. The symposium, held under the patronage of Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, Chairman of the Saudi Red Crescent Society, was organized by Abdul Latif Jameel Company. It was aimed at spreading awareness about road safety as a social responsibility and seeking collaboration between the public and private sectors. The symposium was held in cooperation with the United Nations and the Council of Arab Interior Ministers. Experts for “Decade of Action” road safety campaign recommended public and private sector collaboration, spreading awareness on road safety and to resolve several outstanding issues. The symposium recommended that traffic awareness programs are taught in schools. There should also be more research and studies, and institutes and centers established. Experts also recommended establishing a base of information and data at the Arab Organization for Traffic Safety, which will help to conduct research and studies and assist decision-makers when responding to traffic accidents. It also sought increased interaction between Arab organizations, the United Nations and the World Health Organization.
