KHAMIS MUSHAYT: The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (the Hai'a) in Khamis Mushayt says it has broken the spell of talismans and other objects made for the practice of magic 20 years ago. The objects were brought to the attention of the Hai'a by a man who came across them while looking through the personal effects of his recently deceased father, a Yemeni shepherd who died in old age. Sheikh Awwadh Al-Asmari, spokesman for the Hai'a in Asir, said that cases involving magic are passed on to a “number of Hai'a specialists in the field”. “The spells of three leather-bound 20-year-old items used in magic were broken,” Sheikh Al-Asmari said. “People should report all persons practicing magic and should have no dealings with them.”
