JEDDAH: Readers moved by the story of Muhammad Asiri and his family, forced by circumstance to live in a minibus, have urged charities to help the family, while some have offered proposals of marriage to Asiri's daughter Bashaer. Okaz/Saudi Gazette reported Friday that the family, who first came to the attention of the press over two years ago when they were found living in the minibus on a Corniche beach, is back to its former way of life for reasons unclear. Asiri, his son Saleh and daughter Bashaer, had been given rent-free accommodation in the intervening period by a generous benefactor, and while Asiri was not forthcoming when asked the reason for their recent return to the bus, he said the family “needs somewhere to live urgently”. Okaz/Saudi Gazette readers responded with offers of marriage to Bashaer, while one generous individual offered a family apartment rent-free until the Asiris get themselves back on their feet – the only problem being that the apartment is in the southern region of Jizan. Abdullah Aal Tawi, Director General of Social Affairs for the region of Makkah, said that he was prepared to look into the family's circumstances and help them “either through social security or charities”. “I would welcome a visit from them so we can study their situation,” he said. Asiri told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the family was first evicted from their home nearly three years ago for failure to pay the rent. Now back to their former life after two years of living at the expense of a generous benefactor, Asiri said he had approached the Jeddah Social Affairs office but was not granted any assistance. A legal adviser to the Human Rights Commission described the family's situation as a “serious violation of their rights as citizens” and said that the Ministry of Social Affairs was duty-bound to assist the family. “I am prepared to take up the case with the relevant authorities and ensure the family is provided with at least the minimum care required,” Omar Al
