Criminal Court of Jeddah has issued a sentence against Raef Badawi which included 10 year imprisonment, 1000 lashes & SR 1000000 penalty after accusing him of violating the Islamic values and mocking the religious characters. In spite of that the defendant objected the initial / interlocutory judgment; the public prosecutor insisted that the judgment is not convincing and asked for stricter judgment. Judgment decision against Badawi has been issued after overturning the judgment issued by the district court which implied imprisoning him for 7 years & 3 months together with 600 lashes. In this regard, the District Court of Jeddah has referred the case of Raef Badawi to the General Court earlier due to lack of jurisdiction and has recommended subjecting him to a trial under the charge of apostasy (i.e. abandonment of Islam) which punishment is death penalty.
