An Arab man has been given a sentence of six years in jail and 1,500 lashes for blackmailing female relatives and forcing them into prostitution. The District Court in Jeddah issued the verdict which has now been sent to the Court of Cassation for approval. The 36-year-old accused man's objection to the verdict was accepted and he now has 30 days within which to appeal. The Attorney General called for a stricter sentence, citing “the nature of the crime.”
