Western Nicaragua was shaken again Friday by a strong earthquake whose epicenter was south of the capital Managua about 138 kilometres deep, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said, according to dpa. People in Managua raced out of their homes and offices when the quake struck at about 2:29 pm (2029 GMT). Its magnitude was 6.6, the USGS said. Managua's cathedral was evacuated as the stations of the cross were under way. A number of apartment houses also were cleared and 29 families were brought to safety, government spokesman Rosario Murillo. An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 shook Nicaragua on Thursday. A woman died and 33 people were injured in that earthquake, which also struck near Managua. The government estimated that 1,200 houses were damaged.
