A new aftershock caused alarm in Nicaragua's capital, sending thousands of people fleeing into the streets overnight. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the magnitude-5.1 earthquake happened just before midnight Sunday, with an epicenter on the outskirts of Managua. Nicaraguan government spokeswoman Rosario Murillo told local media that two houses collapsed in Managua and five in nearby Ciudad Sandino, but there were no reported injuries or deaths. A magnitude-4.4 earthquake occurred further away from Managua on Sunday morning. The seismic events followed earthquakes of magnitude-6.6 on Friday and 6.1 on Thursday. The shaking revived memories of a 1972 earthquake that killed 10,000 people.
