Arrest of 849 smugglers and drug traffickers & confiscation of goods which value exceeds SR 2 billion. General Torki confirms that Ministry of Interior is keen to protect Homeland Children from drugs addiction.
Ministry of Interior's Security Spokesman General Mansour Al-Torki revealed that the smugglers have changed their routes through using the Western coasts of the Kingdom for smuggling the narcotic substances due to increasing the security measures in the Southern borders. He clarified that 8 smuggling attempts had been aborted during the last four months And that most of them had been attempted through the coasts of Holy Mecca & Jazan where the amount exceeded 4.2 tons of cannabis / Marijuana. During the press conference that had accompanied Ministry of Interior's statement about security men tasks performance results in regard to fighting smuggling and drug trafficking crimes, General Torki said that more than 18 smuggling attempts had been aborted through similar number of internal security operations that resulted in seizing 8 million tablets of Amphetamine narcotic tablets. He declared that the number of arrested persons had reached 849 of which the Saudi citizens constitute 33% & the Yemeni citizens constitute 26% while the third place had been occupied by the Ethiopians with 7% followed by the Egyptian with 6.8%, the Pakistanis with 5%, the Somalis with 3.9%, the Syrians with 2%, the Indians with 2%, the Bengalis with 2% and citizens of the other nationalities which percentage is less than 1% each.
