General Secretary of International Parliamentary Union: The Kingdom leads the Arab World in achieving the fastest growth in Woman's rights field The Kingdom headed the Arab World in regard to achieving the biggest development in the field of providing the woman with its political rights in 2013 according to an international report published on Tuesday. The Arab World, with Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on its peak, has achieved the fastest development in this field due to the availability of the political will and the popular desire, said Anders Johnson, General Secretary of International Parliamentary Union. One of the effective strategies for increasing the number of women in the parliaments is applying certain procedures such as the "Quota" System, the standby seats and the voluntary political commitment for representing the women in such establishments, said Johnson. In the report which has born the name of "Women in the Political Map – 2014," Johnson said that 80% of the states that achieved the biggest development in regard to women representation in the parliaments have adopted such procedures. In spite of that the Saudi parliament (Shoura Council) used to lack the feminine members totally; women constitute 20% of its members today after King Abdulla Bin Abdul Aziz's declaration of the said quota which resulted in appointing this big percentage of women in Saudi Shoura Council (The Parliament). Johnson added that women may achieve a representation similar to that of men within 20 years if the same pace of development in regard to women's representation in such legislative establishments is preserved.
