Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman: Egyptian Government Ends Investigation On Saudi Polypropylene Product
Published in Alriyadh on 08 - 01 - 2013

The Egyptian government has ended the investigation of preventive measures on its imports of polypropylene product, which is produced by several companies including Saudi Arabian Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), Petro Rabigh, Tasnie' (Industrialization), Mutaqadimah (Advanced), and NATPET, under a decision issued by the Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Egypt No. 933/2012 dated 24 / 12/2012.
The decision came after the investigating authorities in the Arab Republic of Egypt concluded that the alleged damage to the Egyptian industry is due to other reasons besides the increase in imports, and that the imposition of preventive measures does not serve the Egyptian public interest , and therefore they ended the investigation.
On this occasion, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Assistant Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for Petroleum Affairs and Chairman of the Team Concerning with issues of Dumping and Subsidy said in a statement that investigations into the imposition of preventive measures against Saudi exports of polypropylene product began on April 23, 2012, and after that the decision was made by the Egyptian Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade on September 12, 2012 with the discontinuation of the decision to impose temporary preventive measures by 15% on the product of polypropylene and with a minimum of 1,605 pounds per ton, in line with the evidence and facts provided by the team to those concerned officials in the Egyptian government. The Prince praised the Egyptian government for its understanding, examining the evidence and data, and dealing with the issue objectively and professionally, which led to the decision to cancel the imposition of the charges of temporary preventive measures first, and then ended the investigation without the imposition of any fees on imports of polypropylene product on 24 December 2012.
