Lebanon is a Syrian colony!
Al-Riyadh Editorial
Published in Alriyadh on 22 - 10 - 2012

After the first military coop, Lebanon had become the basic problem for Syria as much as Syria had been a problem for it! Lebanon had been the (suitable) environment for conspiracies which were being prepared for most of Arab regimes and Syrian had been, then, following the same line. The foreign embassies had been centers or focal points for open works in its field. However, After Al-Assad the Father's coop, Lebanon had become a hostage in the hands of the Syrian authority and had been even occupied when the Syrian troops entered into it in 1976 which was a year after the start of civil war. Syria could acquire the green light (the permission) of the United States at that time under the article of protecting the Christians from the other sects.
During the said occupation, many of the Lebanese national symbols, such as presidents, leaders, journalists and intellectuals had been assassinated. This meant that anyone who opposed the Syrian role used to be assassinated. One of the prominent victims of such practice was Rafik Hariri whose case has become an international one while the assassination of Wisam Al-Hassan, Head of Information Division in Lebanese Security Force, has become an episode in the long series. Al-Hassan was assassinated because he revealed or exposed the most dangerous conspiracy led by Michel Samaha through smuggling explosives that was going to be used for striking Christian, Islamic and other religious spots for creating a disorder which should lead to a security tension that may lead to disorders between these sects which are still living the obsession of fear. For Syria, its security bodies and spies; the said reveal has been a massive strike. In spite of that Syria has been the first suspected authority in regard to this assassination, Israel can be in the same line as the Lebanese bodies led by Wisam Al-Hassan revealed or exposed more than fifty Israeli spying cases and many Lebanese spies who have been cooperating with Israel. Accordingly, Israel can be a potential accused authority, too, due to that the assassinated person has been one of the competencies that put Israel in the same direction in regard to abusing the internal security of Lebanon and affecting it negatively.
Absolutely, the Syrian targets are not defined by a certain action. Through assassinating the individuals, it wants to put the authority before a state which still believes that it is the only party authorized for taking action and the men of power in it should accept the reality. This affected the economic situation and led it to a sharp decline as tourism had been reduced towards almost stoppage, in addition to capitals departure and decline of investments whether in the banking, touristic or real estate one. This means an undeclared siege from Syria's side.
Lebanon's problem is that it lacks the national consensus as the link between its partisan and sectarian formations is the self interests. The previous fact facilitated its penetration and employing some of its members for becoming in the side of the foreigner who is waiting the proper chance for abusing it. Syria is one of the players in Lebanon's internal yard through its agents and powerful men who are ready and willing to do everything even if they are assassinations and murders of peer opponents.
The present Lebanese government has no clear character, in spite of its being closer to the Syrian regime & that's why many voices have risen and asked for its resignation due to that its image among the public has become bad in regard to security preservation which constitutes a priority to them. Targeting important personnel in the heart of Security body with no action from the state's side except for the investigations it says it is doing for revealing the criteria of the crime confirms that Samaha's case has not been dealt with in a deterrent way in spite of the clear evidences and defendants. This decline in state's role created a sharp trend which criticized it frankly and asked for its departure. Otherwise, Syria & Israel are going to continue the game in which the loser shall be Lebanon and its people.
