What's after the falsification of academic certificates?!
Al-Riyadh Editorial
Published in Alriyadh on 14 - 09 - 2012

Years ago, lists of Saudi Citizens who got their falsified B. A. & even higher M. A. & PHD degrees came to be known. These citizens obtained these degrees from various countries & have been appointed, accordingly, in high government & private sector positions. This case has not been chased in a way that reveals the reality of what has been published. Such duty is the responsibility of Higher Education Ministry which duty is to asses such degrees, know their origins and recognize them, accordingly, after comparing them with their equal ones obtained from the recognized universities. The tragedy of these cases is that the good jobs are given to those who do not deserve them, which is a public wastage of the real competences. What is regretful is that many of these citizens have been were sent for studding at the expense of the state but came back as simi-illetrate in specializations they are not mastering at all.
There is another scandal now which is revealed by Saudi Commission for Health Specialties as it has just discovered one thousand & five hundred false degrees / certificates whose holders are working in the government & private sectors. These holders are doctors, pharmacists, nurses & technicians. Imagine how many victims have been subjected to disability or death, in addition to those to whom wrong medicines have been prescribed more than once due to such situation. The dangers are represented by that these people are working in facilities related to public health which means the citizen's safety and life. We do not know if these lists are going to be declared in the newspapers and other media for representing a warning for them and for the countries who provided them with such false degrees. Carefulness should be adopted in case of dealing with citizens of these countries or even boycotting them totally. Otherwise, such people will adopt the justification of the dishonest traders who provide false goods or cheat in prices by claiming that exposing them shall affect the reputation of their innocent families. However, government authorities expose the name, family name and identity of those who are sentenced to death and such exposure did not harm their families due to that the mistake was committed by only one abnormal member of their family because of which the while family or tribe cannot be accused or blamed. As long as these cases have become common; they shouldn't be kept hidden at all in a similar way to the case of the massive numbers of workers that have filled our cities and towns. Accordingly, breaches occurred in the medical field are equal to the breaches in security or food. Thus, it is not acceptable at all to leave the degrees falsifier unpunished, regardless of his being a citizen or a foreigner.
Some people may say that such phenomena happen in advanced countries and are not discovered or detected. This is true to some extent but is, at the same time, relative.
If the discovered number (of falsifiers) is accurate; we may not find an equal number in the said countries. Until now, we do not know who work through their degrees in other fields which are not less critical or important than Health department or administrative & technical work departments.
We have many monitoring administrations which job is chasing the falsification and cheating but we lack scrutiny authorities in regard to those who are brought to us under the names of experts, engineers & chemists. Degrees, experience of such people should be carefully checked as some authorities who provided them with such degrees or experience certificates are non-working bodies. The public complain in the companies, banks, ministries & other areas caused mediation the only recognized high qualification. Meanwhile, we have competences who are not obtaining the advantages of others who are less qualified than them. The most dangerous problem is signing contracts with people who occupy the teaching positions in the universities and lead to graduation of a class of disqualifies graduates due to the low salaries and the open contracts!!
