Qatar remains adamant in pursuing its wayward path though the noose is tightening on it. It finds itself in a dilemma, but prefers to further sink rather than return to the right path. The Qatari leadership seems to hold the view that escalation of the crisis will save them in some way. The latest indicator of Qatar's suicidal tactics is to speak about internationalizing the custodianship of the Two Holy Mosques, to be managed by Muslim countries. It is well known that this stand is not rooted in Qatari thinking, but is an age-old Iranian ploy. Qatar is well aware of the Kingdom's care for the Two Holy Mosques and its pride in serving Haj pilgrims, Umrah performers, and visitors of the Prophet's Mosque. This fact needs no elaboration as it is an established fact and well known to all. But Qatar's stand definitely needs to be looked into and condemned. It comes from a supposedly brotherly, neighboring country. It is a painful stance indeed. But again, this has not come as a surprise to the Kingdom, given Qatar's belligerent attitude over the years, particularly in the past few months. It is clearly adopting the Iranian position and looking towards Tehran to bail it out of the deadlock – a strategy which is bound to backfire.
