The General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) confirmed Monday that the expat dependent fees apply to all nationalities without any exception. Jawazat was responding to a query on its Twitter account whether Syrian and Yemeni expatriates were exempted from the tax of SR 100 for every dependent per month effective July 1. The Directorate confirmed Sunday that the levy has to be paid at the time of Iqama renewal and before an exit/re-entry visa is issued. The levy will be increased in a phased manner every year – SR 200 in 2018, SR 300 in 2019, and SR 400 in 2020. The levy is part of a series of measures taken by the government to balance the budget by 2020.
