Crown Prince Post Is Not a Prestige
Published in Alriyadh on 03 - 07 - 2017

Too much has been written and said after the appointment of Mohammad bin Salman as Crown Prince.
But it seems that the analysis had failed to understand nature of this position in the Kingdom since its establishment almost a century ago. In fact, the post of the Crown Prince is very distinctive and renewable.
When deciding as who assumes this post, the country's leadership takes into consideration the existing state of affairs at home and abroad which requires presence of rains that keep abreast of the ever-changing international developments.
This post is particularly important because it is not a matter of prestige but it is a heavy task relating to the future of the country as a whole. It is not limited to one person, but it involves a whole establishment that is capable of strategic planning and which enjoys allegiance of the people.
Therefore, Mohammad ben Salman is not an exception; rather he is part of the traditional process and will follow the footsteps of his predecessors.
His choosing to this post is consistent with an organized and deep-rooted policy which demonstrates that renovation, managing and administering of the ruling system in the Kingdom is not mere slogans, but it is a tradition and methodology.
This is a positive feature of the hereditary royal systems which are capable of quickly responding to the changes and developments. Naming Prince Mohammad to the post of Crown Prince combines wisdom with expertise and enthusiasm. This is a very sure formula to guarantee the whole process of progress and development.
Noticeably, the smooth transfer process shows that it has been well-studied and planned in advance between the ruling system and the whole state system which leaves no chance for misgivings.
Given these facts, what remains now is the role of the people in supporting the new attitude. We should all show our love for our country, not by words but by actions. We should all remember that many unfriendly parties had wishfully predicted that the Kingdom would be exposed to instability. But this was mere wishful thinking, but our leadership was able to fill in the vacuum.
They will persist in their attempt to conspire against us, but in God we trust, and He will guide our steps.
Dr. Talal Al Harbi
