The newly formed Global Center to Combat Extremism Ideology (GCCEI) has launched its first electronic outreach campaign on social media, under the motto, "A Life Free of Extremism." The campaign aims to spread the values of tolerance and moderation, and support a discourse that encourages accepting others, and develop content that addresses extremist ideology and thought. The campaign, which comes in line with the Center's aims and objectives, seeks to spread its message on social networks in both Arabic and English. A team of regional and international professionals and university professors, well versed in the fields of research, information, technology and thought, have joined together to develop content that appeals to the public. Its Twitter account has already received more than 20 million hits and 4,000 tweets on the very first day. The campaign also taps Facebook where relevant press stories will be published, besides statistics and known behavioral pattern of extremists through infographics and animation in the GIF format. The Center was inaugurated by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz on the sidelines of the Arab-American-Islamic Summit in Riyadh on May 21, in the presence of US President Donald Trump and a number of leaders from the Arab and Islamic world. The center is developing mechanisms to exchange information and expertise between participating countries on ways to fight extremism. It links national counter-extremism agencies through a database that allows rapid updating and exchanging of relevant information.
