Tadweer (The Center of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi) organized an awareness workshop about the importance of segregating construction and demolition waste. The workshop was attended by 250 companies and targeted environmental services providers specialized in waste management, as well as construction and demolition waste producers engaged in construction and infrastructure projects. H.E Eng. Saeed Al Mehairbi, the Acting General Manager of Tadweer (The Center of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi) said: "This workshop comes in line with the Abu Dhabi Vision and Plan and reflects the important role that Tadweer plays in providing a safe, efficient and economical waste management system across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Tadweer has developed an integrated waste master plan that aims to reduce the amount of waste being diverted to landfills, through a number of waste recycling and reuse strategies." "Construction and demolition waste constitutes a significant percentage of the total waste produced in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. As environmental service providers and construction and demolition waste producers, you are significantly contributing to the realization of our plans and objectives by segregating the demolition and construction waste from the source before transporting it to the recycling plants," Al Mehairbi added. Recycling construction and demolition waste contribute effectively in reducing the percentage of waste resulting from construction and demolition activities. This waste is recycled through two plants that were established for this purpose. The first is located in Abu Dhabi and managed by Al Dhafra Recycling Industries LLC and the second is located in Al Ain and managed by Star International Waste Management LLC. The daily operating capacity of Al Dhafra plant reached 8,000 tons, and the annual production capacity reached 2,800,000 tons by the end of 2016. One of the most important projects that are supplied with the recycled products of construction and demolition plant are: Etihad Railway project, Al Mafraq – Al Ghuwaifat Highway Project, Saadiyat Island Infrastructure, The Louvre and the Sheikh Zayed Mosque parking's infrastructure.
