Yemen's Women Live in Tragedy, Pain, Fear at Hands of Al-Houthi Coup Militias
Published in Alriyadh on 18 - 04 - 2017

Yemeni women live in tragic and painful situations with increasing violations and atrocities being committed by Al-Houthi coup militias against them in the Governorates being controlled by Al-Houthis.
Forms and manifestations of such violations against Yemeni women include verbal and sexual harassment, physical abuse and threat of murder and rape, as well as preventing them from working.
Representative of Yemen to the Arab League in Cairo, Riyad Al-Ka'abari said that the reports of human rights activists confirmed the increase in cases of violence and fear as well as other violations, including the leaving of education by thousands of female students, increasing rates of poverty, unemployment and begging.
"Women in Yemen were subjected to verbal and sexual harassment after the takeover of power by Al-Houthi coup militias in September 2014," Al-Ka'abari said in the cultural Saloon held under the title "Arab Women Conditions under Conflicts" at the headquarters of Yemeni Embassy in Cairo in cooperation with the Arab Women Organization.
On its part, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), reported last month that 10,000 cases of violence against women in Yemen were recorded in 2016.
It pointed out that these cases of violence include "Cases of rape, domestic violence, marriage of minors, forced marriage, physical and psychological abuse, psychological trauma and many other forms of violence against women and girls."
Moreover, Yemeni female activists highlighted the heinous atrocities being committed by Al-Houthi militias against Yemeni women.
This was presented by those activists during a seminar held on the sidelines of the 33rd session of the UN Human Rights Council recently hosted by the United Nations in Geneva under the theme "Conditions of Women and Children During Armed Conflict in Yemen."
On her part, Dr. Wissam Basandouh spoke about the situation of women in Yemen, while journalist Bushra Al-Ameri presented a paper on the violations against media women during the war.
Activist Soad Alayah also presented a paper on the recruitment of children by the coup militias in Yemen.
