The special relationship enjoyed by Saudi Arabia and Jordan dates back to decades. Throughout the long-standing relationship, the two countries have adopted an approach of joint action, and have held identical views on various regional and global issues. Jordan is important to Saudi policy, particularly so because much lies in common between them. Both countries have never been part of any offensive alliance. On the contrary, they have always played a leading role in resolving disputes. They have shouldered huge responsibilities in the interest of a strong Arab nation and a stable Muslim world. King Salman's historic visit to Jordan thus acquires special significance, one that promises to be beneficial to both countries. The visit further enhances fraternal relations, going beyond the traditional level of partnership. It demonstrates unity of purpose and aspirations. The people of the two countries, too, have strong bonds rooted in customs, traditions, and a long history of goodwill. King Salman's meeting with King Abdullah bin Al-Hussein has opened a new era of political dialogue, giving renewed impetus to joint action that aims to address regional crises, amidst a boost in bilateral economic cooperation. Jordan is a strong supporter of the Kingdom and vice versa. The two have sought to address vexing regional issues, such as the crisis brought about by the Zionist entity, including the flood of Palestinian refugees, the complicated Iraqi situation following the second Gulf war, and the Syrian crisis. The purpose of constant engagement between the leaders is to draw out a roadmap towards peace in the region. With the strong determination on both sides, there is every reason for them to make headway in this noble mission.
