President Hassan Rouhani's warning came as hundreds of thousands of took to the streets of Iran on Friday to swear allegiance to the clerical establishment following US President Donald Trump's warning that he had put the Islamic Republic "on notice". Carrying "Death to America" banners and effigies of Mr Trump, Iranians in Tehran marched towards the Azadi Freedom Square to commemorate the anniversary of Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution that toppled the US-backed shah. Iran's most powerful authority Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called Iranians to take part in the demonstrations to show Iran was not frightened of American "threats" on Tuesday. Rouhani called on people to join the march A young Iranian man told state TV: "America and Trump cannot do a damn thing. We are ready to sacrifice our lives for our leader Khamenei." Last week Donald Trump put Iran "on notice" in reaction to a January 29 Iranian missile test and imposed fresh sanctions on individuals and entities. Iran insisted it will not halt its missile programme. Relations between the two have detoriated since Mr Trump took office following his controverisal travel ban and sanctions imposed after Iran's missile test. It adds to concerns over the future of a deal with Iran, which was brokered by Barack Obama, that requires Iran to heavily restrict its nuclear programme. Most of the sanctions imposed on Iran were lifted last year under the deal. Donald Trump has sparked rallies across Iran Pragmatist President Rouhani also called on Iranians to join the Friday rally to "show their unbreakable ties with the Supreme Leader and the Islamic Republic". Millions turned out nationwide at revolution rallies in all main cities marked by the traditional anti-US and anti-Israel slogans and the burning of American flags. On social media, many Iranians used the hashtag of LoveBeyondFlags, urging an end to flag-burning during the anniversary. They also thanked Americans for opposing Mr Trump's executive order banning migrants from seven mainly Muslim countries, including Iran.
