Syrian rescue workers and an opposition monitoring group say at least 10 people were killed in airstrikes in rebel-controlled areas in the deeply contested city of Aleppo. Ibrahem Alhaj from the Syrian Civil Defense, which conducts search and rescue operations in rebel-held areas, says government jets carried out some 40 airstrikes on Tuesday in rebel-controlled areas in the city that left 10 people killed and 40 wounded. A video shows Civil Defense volunteers pulling the body of a toddler from under the rubble as a gray plume of dust covers an entire street and people are seen covering their mouths as they run away. Earlier on Tuesday, five members of the civil defense organization were killed when an airstrike hit their training center in the town of Atareb, west of Aleppo. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights puts the death toll in rebel-held areas in Aleppo city at 11, suggesting it could rise further. The Observatory says the airstrikes are continuing.
