The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed insistence on uprooting the terrorism phenomenon and to eradicate its sources and causes, regardless of motives and identities of those who commit it, stressing that the Kingdom is among the countries whose land and citizens have been targeted. The Kingdom called on all countries to provide necessary back up for the Anti-Terrorism and Violent Extremism Center, which was established by the great efforts of the Kingdom, starting from putting forward the idea, then founding it and supporting its budget, under the umbrella of the UN. Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir was addressing the meeting of the Summit on Fighting the Terrorist Daesh Organization chaired by the U.S. President Barack Obama, at the UN premises, in New York. He added that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia proceeding from its belief of significance of the world community's solidarity to confront terrorism and extremism will, actively, contribute, in all working groups which have emanated from the alliance and all other international endeavors to confront terrorism and violent extremism, in its all forms and manifestations, whatsoever its purposes, as it constitutes the utmost menace that jeopardizes international peace as well as security. The most important point that we have to stress, as we review the topics of terrorism and extremism is that we shall understand from the outset that none will be saved from the fallouts of this dangerous phenomenon, which shall not be attached to a specific religion, culture or race, as all of us are targeted and all of us are jeopardized, he stated. Al-Jubeir pointed out that the Kingdom is among the countries that terrorism has targeted its soil and citizens and is still in an ongoing stand-off with terrorism, emphasizing insistence to uproot this phenomenon, adding that we have exerted intensive efforts not only to confront terrorism but also to eradicate its sources and causes, regardless of its motives or the identity of those who commit it. He added that in the context of its anti-terrorism stance, the Kingdom disapproves false statements by some terrorist outfits that make the Islamic religion a pretext for their horrendous acts, ignoring, out of unfairness and aggression, that Islam is the religion of peace, tolerance, moderation and centrism and that it is far away from any path of extremism and fundamentalism, that, completely, opposes the concept of tolerance, moderation and mercy, proclaimed by the religion of Islam. He said, 'Based on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's conviction that the best way to confront this great evil is through collective and organized work, it has been keen to comply with the requirements of UN Security Council Resolutions 1267, 1989, 2161, 2170 and 2178 in addition to taking internal measures adopted for the purpose of countering terrorism and extremism.' In this regard, he noted that the kingdom introduced regulations to prevent the financing of terrorism and stemming the flow of foreign fighters into areas of conflict in order to join the terrorist group. It has also directed several state agencies and government departments to adopt the necessary programs and actions to combat extremist ideology, he added. Minister Al-Jubeir explained that based on the kingdom's' responsibility within the group of combating the financing of Daesh group, it hosted the second meeting of the group held in the city of Jeddah in May, along with its active participations in the work of other working groups of the alliance and the attendance of all those meetings. He also referred to the Kingdom's efforts in the field of counter-terrorism at the international and UN levels noting that the kingdom hosted in 2005 an international conference to combat terrorism and presented the idea of establishing an international center to combat terrorism and made great efforts to create it under the United Nations' umbrella and undertook to pay its initial budget for three years in the amount of ten million dollars. He added that it also provided additional support to the center of the amount of a hundred million dollars in realization of the importance of continuing to do its job to implement the United Nations' strategy. He called on participating countries and all the countries of the world to provide the necessary support for the center to combat terrorism and violent extremism in the world and wished the meeting success.
