KUWAIT — Acts of terrorism and the practice of extremism aim to divide the Muslim world, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir said on Wednesday at a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers here.? ?Jubeir said the enormity of the crime of the recent terrorist attack on a mosque in Al-Qudaih village in Qatif was contrary to Islamic and humanitarian values.? ?“We have been committed to confronting the challenges of extremism and violence,” he said.? ?“Terrorism, extremism and sectarianism aim to divide the Muslim world,” he added, citing the current conflict in Yemen as a “reflection of the suffering of the global Muslim community.”? ?Jubeir stressed that the Kingdom during its presidency of the 41st OIC session had been keen to do everything in its capacity in cooperation with OIC member states to promote a joint Islamic front in all fields and deepen the values of solidarity to confront the challenges faced by Muslim nations.? ?In his opening statements, Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah reiterated his country's strong condemnation of the horrible terrorist bombing which took place in Qatif. ? ?He stressed Kuwait's stand with the Kingdom and its support for all measures to confront these terrorist crimes.? ?“We are required to intensify our efforts to confront the phenomenon of terrorism threatening our security and stability,” Sheikh Sabah said. ? ?He said: “As you meet under the OIC umbrella, there must be a serious stand to consider the sectarian tension which threatens the entity and unity of our nation.? ?“As for regional conflicts, we are required to double our efforts to put an end to the conflicts in some Arab and Muslim countries. ? ?“We are following with great concern the unfortunate security developments and the attempts of the terrorist organization Daesh to undermine Iraq's security and stability. ? ?We assure our brothers in Iraq of our support for their efforts to maintain security, stability and sovereignty.”? ?The emir said the Arab coalition had “responded to the Yemeni president's request to restore legitimacy.”? ?On the Syrian crisis, Sheikh Sabah said that the four-year-long war could “only be solved through diplomatic channels” as the humanitarian crisis escalates.? ?On the Palestinian issue, he said that efforts are still faltering. “The Israeli violations of Al-Aqsa Mosque are frequent, settlement building continues, and the suffering of our brothers is growing. ? ?Hence, we renew our call to the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to compel Israel to accept peace and allow the establishment of a Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative.”? ?The 42nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OIC is meeting under the title “Joint vision for the promotion of tolerance and the renunciation of terrorism.”?
