The Israel lobby (AIPAC) planned to send 300 of its supporters to Congress yesterday, to put pressure on the latter's members to approve a military strike against the Syrian regime. However, the American people are opposed to the strike: a poll conducted by CNN showed that 60 percent of Americans are against military action in Syria, and a Gallup poll found that 51 percent of Americans are opposed. The rest of Americans do not support it either, and most said they do not know the answer. A poll by The New York Times and CBS found similar results. So who wants the strike? The Israel lobby, the neocons, and the warmongering cabal. Those do not want just a strike against Syria, but want the United States to also continue with a war against Iran. Dennis Ross, who worked for Israel during the peace negotiations with the Palestinians, wrote in The Washington Post that blocking action on Syria makes an attack on Iran more likely. In the same newspaper, Stephen Hadley wrote that to stop Iran, Obama must enforce red lines with Assad. The extremist Likud-leaning Israeli Ben-Dror Yemini wrote in Maariv that "a crime against humanity was committed in Syria," forgetting that Israel itself is a crime against humanity. What happened was that Christian Europe massacred its Jews, then helped them occupy Palestine and drive out its people or murder them. While killing civilians, both children and adults, is a crime in Syria and every other country, recall that Israel killed 1,500 Palestinian children in the first decade of this century (compared to 135 Israeli children). So I don't know whether killing en masse is different that killing individually, or whether they are one and the same. Ultimately, Israel's crimes against the Palestinians and neighboring peoples are of a Nazi level, not just that of the Syrian regime. "A Modest Proposal to Bomb Both Sides in Syria," was the title of an article written by John Wiener, whose name betrays his Likudnik leanings. Wiener attacked those who oppose a strike against the Assad regime because of the terrorist opposition, and said that the solution is to bomb both sides in the conflict. The United States is not the world's policeman, and its foreign policy is in the hands of Israel, the neocons, and the Israel lobby. This means that when it comes to our countries, this policy is hostile to all Arabs and Muslims. The author suggests destroying both the regime and the opposition, and then asks who would govern Syria afterwards, to which he responds: the answer is simple, the United States of America. I say: Dream on. The author's gall is such that he speaks of the Syrian opposition as though it consists entirely of supporters of al-Qaeda, and forgets the honest patriotic oppositionists who have a known history in serving their country. Then there is Daniel Pipes, who was one of the advocates of the war on Iraq. Instead of being put on trial, he continues to write articles. Pipe's last article that I read was more wishful thinking than fact. The article was titled "Islamism's Likely Doom," meaning in all Arab countries and even Turkey and Iran. This is what Pipes wants, but the reality on the ground is that Islamists are popular in every Arab country, even in Egypt, despite the series of mistakes they made in one year of their rule there. One of the symbols of the neocons in the United States is Frederick Kagan, who hails from a Likudnik family that has long served Israel. Recently, he wrote an article titled "What to Do About Syria: Vital U.S. interests are at stake." There most definitely are no U.S. interests at stake from the revolution in Syria. The author mentions the threat of chemical weapons falling into the hands of al-Qaeda affiliates, although they are fighting the regime, and for this reason, he wants them destroyed. He also warned against chemical weapons falling into Hezbollah hands. As bad as the above or worse is William Kristol, his father's son (Irving) in extremism and advocacy for Israel, and who signed two letters to Bill Clinton and George W. Bush calling for war on Iraq, and played a key role in inciting the killing of one million Arabs and Muslims. William Kristol wrote an article in his Likudnik publication The Weekly Standard, titled "The Right Vote," calling on Congress to vote in favor of Barack Obama's request for authorization for a strike on Syria. I believe that the reasons for striking Israel, which occupies, kills, destroys, and dispossesses, go much further than all other reasons. American churches and students are against Israel, but the lobby has hijacked the foreign policy with the help of members of Congress whom it bought in cash. [email protected]
