The past week has probably been the week of the major events in Egypt, which are no less important than those that accompanied the beginning of the Egyptian revolution on January 25, and the stepping down of former President Hosni Mubarak on February 11. Despite the attempts of the remnants of the “counter revolution,” the Egyptian revolution has maintained its civilized glow by achieving the first peaceful and legal trial of an Arab president without any external pressure or foreign invasion. This has enhanced the purity and innocence of the revolution in spite of the many media “fabrications” and the fake journalistic stories concerning the current circumstances of Mubarak inside the hospital or the circumstances of the symbols of his rule in the Tora prison. These stories often claim that [Mubarak and the others] are not only leading a normal life, but that they are also happy with their current situations!! There have been claims concerning computers that they have; televisions on which they follow the events around the world; phones by which they contact their families and friends; air conditioners that allow them to enjoy the cool air whenever it is too hot; and all the different kinds of fine foods that they regularly enjoy. But the truth is that Mubarak and the symbols of his rule are paying the price for their mistakes and sins. Indeed, they are going through their darkest days. They are under the control of the revolution. The judiciary system will take the people's revenge. The important thing is that this operation – that has taken place and is still taking place under the support of the army which is running the country in the interim phase – cannot be classified under the context of “settling the scores” or taking revenge against the former regime just for the sake of taking revenge. Indeed, everyone is aware of the extent of corruption that swept over the country during Mubarak's era. Everyone has also lived the bloody violent acts perpetrated by the security forces against the rebels and the protestors. These “fabrications” perhaps serve the interest of the “counter revolution” because the pro Mubarak forces or those forces that have benefited from his rule for years are still insisting on proceeding with the counter revolution. This is only natural as those who are behind it [i.e. behind the counter revolution] know that if the country moves to a new phase of stability and prosperity, they will lose the remaining advantages that they had unlawfully obtained during the Mubarak era or they will follow their colleagues to the Tora prison. These persons might be working on rocking the faith [of the Egyptian people] in the army or the government as if the arrest of Mubarak, his sons, and the symbols of his rule was a mere play or a conspiracy against the people!! The “counter revolution” has received a painful blow through the decision to arrest Mubarak and to question him and to arrest his sons and the symbols of the old guards of the ruling party. The January 25 revolution has yielded, right after its success, some amazing results. These included the arrest of the men of the policies committee and the followers of Gamal Mubarak. In addition, the counter revolution received another painful blow when the National Party was dismantled and when its properties were confiscated and returned to the state. Indeed, the legitimacy of this party has burnt down with its headquarters. It was nothing but an amassment of people with specific interests and a symbol of corruption. Thuggery and thugs constitute witnesses to an era lived by Egypt where the people in power were using outlaws in order to terrorize the people, to repel the opposition, or to terminate everyone who attempts to carry out an intifada or a revolution. Those who are behind the “counter revolution” no longer have much time left. This is because the regime's tools including the thugs and the outlaws, who had been receiving support and nurturing for decades in return of their services, will find themselves with no leaders and no pay. This is also because these thugs have lost the centers of power, the fingers that control them, and the support that would have otherwise enabled them to continue their attempts at terminating the revolution and its gains. The remaining symbols of the Mubarak rule are weak and they cannot possibly proceed on their own. First, the efforts at stirring sedition between Muslims and Copts have failed. These efforts had been fed by rumors, erroneous information or purposeful conspiracies. The noise concerning the Islamists, the Brothers, the Salafis, and even the Jihadists has ceased, especially as it became clear that all the scenes and positions that aimed at imposing these groups via private and official media were all aimed at terrorizing the people, or punishing them, or implying that this is the result of the revolution. Fabricated incidents such as the demolition of some tombs and attacking some citizens in several places also failed to terrorize the people and the society. Thus the counter revolution people had to look for other mechanisms. Hence, they worked on stirring sedition between the army and the people following the “cleansing” Friday. However, all the revolution's sides are insisting on placing the revolution on the right track.
