The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has formed a specialist technical team and contracted with an international office to defend the Kingdom's position in the case of polyethylene Tervtalat product currently being filed against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by the European Union (EU). The Deputy of Ministry of Commerce and Industry for Technical Affairs Dr Mohammed Al-Kathiri, has pointed out that the European Commission has announced the opening of two investigation cases against polyethylene Tervtalat product exported from the Kingdom to the European Union countries claiming that the Kingdom provides support for this product and that Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) dumps EU markets. Dr Alkathiri noted that the Ministry has received documents of complaints filed against the Kingdom by the European Union based on complaints of some producers filed to the European Union claiming that Saudi producers of petrochemicals receive support from the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in contravention with the agreement of World Trade Organization, also indicating that SABIC has also received a complaint from European producers on dumping the EU markets.
