China's inflation rate fell in April and came in under government targets for the third month in a row, dpa quoted the government as saying Friday. Consumer prices rose 3.4 per cent in comparison with the same month last year, the National Bureau of Statistics said. The rate was down from March's 3.6 per cent as warmer weather caused slower growth in food prices, it said. The inflation rate for February was 3.2 per cent, its lowest level in 20 months, as the government seeks to reduce prices of consumer goods and property, which have been slowing China's economic growth. The government has set a target of keeping inflation under 4 per cent. Prices of food, which account for a third of the consumer price index, rose 7 per cent year-on-year in April, down from a 7.5-per-cent gain in March. On a month-on-month basis, food prices fell for the second month in a row by 0.7 per cent in April.
