The United States has allocated $40 million to assist relief organizations aiding victims of the crisis in Syria, a State Department official said Thursday. Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration Anne Richard told reporters that the money will be funneled through the international and local agencies in Syria and surrounding countries. Richard said she discussed contingency plans with Jordanian officials, but she did not go into specifics. Richard said Palestinians and Iraqis in Syria will benefit, as well.
