Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the Group of Eight (G8) summit next week and will send Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in his place, the White House said. Putin, who began his third term as president this week, informed President Barack Obama of his decision during a telephone call, citing the need to stay in Moscow to finalize cabinet appointments.
