At least two people were killed and 12 injured Tuesday in a car bomb attack in south-western Pakistan, dpa quoted police as saying. The incident occurred in the Saryab Road area of Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province where Baluch separatists from various nationalist groups are involved in low-intensity conflict with Pakistani security forces. Senior police officer, Farid Ahmad, told dpa over the phone that the bomb was planted in a car and detonated when a convoy of the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) was passing nearby. "Two civilians were killed and 12 others injured in the attack but the FC convoy, which was the target of the attack, escaped unharmed," Ahmad said. Four motorised rickshaws caught fire and were destroyed. Saryab Road is considered a stronghold of local nationalist militants who frequently target security forces patrolling the area. Baluch ethnic groups want greater autonomy from the federal government and complete control of natural resources such as gas in the province.
