An explosion occurred Sunday in Damascus, DPA reported. The opposition Local Coordination Committees (LCC) said the blast took place in Al Maza district, which houses the residences of several government officials and foreign embassies. Damascus was Friday hit by blasts that killed at least 11 people and wounded 30, according to state media. Another major blast, meanwhile, was heard in the district of Al Karama in Hama, according to LCC. There were no immediate reports about casualties. Clashes also erupted Sunday between military troops and army defectors on the outskirts of Damascus and in Idlib in northern Syria, said opposition activists. Major General Robert Mood of Norway is expected Sunday in Syria to lead a UN mission tasked with overseeing the truce. The mission in Syria is authorized to deploy up to 300 observers, according to a recent UN Security Council resolution.
