Pakistan's Supreme Court Thursday convicted Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani of contempt of court and imposed only a symbolic punishment. Gilani was found guilty for failing to write to the Swiss authorities to ask them to re-open graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, who heads the Pakistan People's Party to which Gilani also belongs, despite a court order to do so. The seven-member bench convicted Gilani for willfully showing disrespect to court decisions. Gilani's trial started in January.
