A Nepali mountaineer has died while attempting to scale Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain, the Nepali Mountaineering Association confirmed Saturday. Namgyal Tsering Sherpa, 30, died after falling into a crevasse on Friday. He had covered about 6,500 metres. Everest peaks at 8,848 metres. Namgyal Tsering's death was the second this season, dpa reported. The association's president, Jimba Jangbu Sherpa, said, "If the weather improves, we'll airlift his body on Sunday." More than 250 people have died on Everest since it first opened to climbers in 1953. On Wednesday, Karsang Namgyal Sherpa, who had climbed Everest 10 times, died because of altitude sickness.
