The United States experienced its hottest March this year, while the rest of the world took a break from ever increasing temperatures, a U.S. agency said Monday. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said the world had its coolest March since 1999. It was the sixteenth warmest March since record keeping began in 1880, but the month was still 0.5 degrees Celsius warmer than the twentieth century average. NOAA's Deke Arndt said that though it was cooler than recent years, last month globally was warmer than the majority of Marches in the twentieth century. Arndt said the weather phenomenon known as La Nina has had a cooling effect globally.
